Steve Thorne and Steve Dwyer formed Thorne Dwyer Structures in 1993 to offer a high quality design service. We share a strong belief in engineering as an art which while making use of scientific laws relies as much on our intuitive and imaginative skills as well as our experience to arrive at good solutions.

Thorne Dwyer Structures has a team of experienced and well qualified engineers and CAD technicians who are encouraged to keep growing their skills and extending their capabilities. We have experience in the design of a wide variety of projects from residential retaining walls to 6 level commercial and public buildings including the seismic assessment and upgrade of existing structures.

Thorne Dwyer Structures continues to build on a reputation for high quality analysis, design and documentation.  This is maintained by established in-house quality procedures and an ongoing commitment to the currency of our skills.  The practise is geared to carry out large and small projects utilising a number of computer based analysis, design and drafting programs.

– Over 40 years experience in structural design and construction supervision.

– Enjoys the challenge of demanding projects where attention to detail and sympathetic response to design intention are important.

– Experienced in a broad range of design types and a variety of building materials. – Keeps abreast of current research in engineering design and materials.

– Construction supervision and contract management experience emphasising quality results, efficiency and cooperative resolution of construction problems.

Steve Dwyer NZCE, BE(Hons), CP Eng. Director

– Over 35 years experience in a wide range of highrise, commercial, industrial and residential projects in New Zealand and overseas.

– Seismic strengthening experience includes structure evaluation, detailed design and determining material strengths.

– Broad range of experience in a variety of building materials including precast and prestressed concrete, structural steel, aluminium, masonry and timber.

– Experience with a wide variety of computer analysis techniques and continual in house development of computer based design programs.  Fully conversant with AUTOCAD.

– Capable of producing clear hand sketches to reinforce structural concepts during the design phase.

Guy Wood, BE(Hons) Associate

– 9 years structural design experience in New Zealand and UK.  Joined Thorne Dwyer Structures in 2013.

– Broad range of experience from residential design to high rise construction.
